PHASE 2: BOARD SEARCH FEATURES
BML Participants are invited to Initiate their board search and match
using one or more of the following options
BML PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
PHASE 1: LEARNING
Prepares participants for board volunteerism using a combination of e-learning and 2 days of experiential classroom learning focused on governance, leadership and management in the nonprofit sector
PHASE 2: BOARD SEARCH
Initiate your board search and identify a board match that reflects your interests using one or both of the following options:
- BoardMatch Fundamentals (BMF) Independent Board Search - Free
- This option is for you if you are ready to take a self-directed approach to search and apply for board opportunities that match your interests
- You create your profile on-line and use our free web based board recruitment system to search and apply for board openings at your own pace
- BoardMatch Leaders Board Search Support* - Fee Based
- This option is for you if you would benefit from individual consultation with our board search advisor to explore your board interests and clarify your volunteer objectives
- Once you clarify your preferences our board search advisor sources board leads for your review – you then identify one of more option(s) of interest and our board search advisor works with you to facilitate introduction(s) to the board nomination representative(s). Our board search advisor is available for consultation, support, and follow up through the application process as needed
*Important Note: to be eligible for the BoardMatch Leaders Board Search Support option and the Certificate of Recognition you must attend the full 2 day BML program without missing more than 1 hour in total of in-class program content.

SELF-DIRECTED BOARD SEARCH

Participant’s role:
- Participant completes on-line BMF registration and application to become ‘board ready’
- Participant uses BMF system to search, apply, and interview for board positions
- Participant accepts or declines board offers
No individual support provided by Altruvest team with this option

INDIVIDUAL BOARD SEARCH SUPPORT
Participant assisted with board search through individual support of
BoardMatch Leaders (BML) Program Manager |
6 Months
6 consecutive months of individual board search support
Goal is to have participant at board interview stage by end of 6 months
|
BML Program Manager’s role:
- Assist in development of short list re: board opportunities – minimum of 5 board positions reflective of participant’s interests as outlined in his/her profile
- Facilitate participant application to minimum of 2 charity boards and assist with advancement to interview stage
Participant’s role:
- Complete on-line BMF registration and application to become ‘board ready’ within 1 month of completing classroom learning
- Promptly respond to communications from Program Manager and charity contacts
- Provide updates on board search process to Program Manager including outcomes of interviews and board match success

Renewable 3 month term for additional individual board search support |
BML Program Manager’s role:
- Assist in identifying short list of board opportunities – minimum of 3 potential board positions reflective of participant’s interests as outlined in participant’s profile
- Facilitate application to minimum of 1 charity board and assist participant in advancement to interview stage
Participant’s role:
- Complete on-line BMF registration and application to become ‘board ready’ within 1 month of completing classroom learning
- Promptly respond to communications from Program Manager and charity contacts
- Provide updates on board search process to Program Manager including outcomes of interviews and board match success.

*Extended 3 Month Individual Board Search Support option is selected by participants in the following cases:
- Desire to extend initial 6 months of individual board search support
- Initial volunteer board term has ended and interested in support to identify and join a new board
- Participant identifies that 3 months of individual board search support is sufficient for their needs
