The BoardMatch Leaders Program (BML) continues to empower aspiring board leaders on their journey to charitable governance excellence. In this update, we’re delighted to share the remarkable progress achieved by our first two cohorts. BML remains committed to equipping professionals with the skills and knowledge required to make meaningful contributions to charitable boards. With a focus on small class sizes, comprehensive content, and engaging case studies, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of community leaders.
Cohort 1: Paving the Way to Board Success
Cohort 1 recently completed their Day 2 session hosted by EY in Toronto, marking the culmination of their comprehensive board governance training, which included engaging case studies and enlightening role-play scenarios. These Leaders are now at the exciting stage of seeking election to charitable boards while actively collaborating with their mentors. Their journey continues beyond the classroom, as they embark on the next chapter of their charity board leadership careers.
We are pleased to share that the outcomes of the second session were nothing short of impressive. Notably, daily evaluations consistently exceeded the 85% mark, showcasing the high caliber of our program and the exceptional teaching skills of Dr. Patricia Bradshaw. What’s even more encouraging is the status of our participants six months after program start. As expected, board placements vary, with some candidates securing positions immediately, while others continue their search for up to 12 months due to board AGM dates. Here’s the breakdown of where our Cohort 1 graduates stand:
- 26% are already on boards or have board elections pending by December 31
- 26% are actively engaged in board interviews
- 21% are in the application stage
- 21% are diligently searching for the right opportunity
These results affirm the effectiveness of the BML program in preparing individuals for board leadership roles and highlight the diverse journeys our participants embark on.
Cohort 2 Day 1: A New Wave of Board Leadership Emerges
Cohort 2, composed of 16 exceptional individuals from organizations such as EY, BLG, Torys, and BMO, recently completed their Day 1 session hosted by UBS in Toronto this September. One of the standout features of this cohort is the diverse backgrounds and experiences of its members. In the words of one participant, “given our backgrounds, we can confidently state that BML’s in-person small class size is excellent, the content is truly outstanding and comparable to other prestigious national programs, and the price point is very good, especially considering that BML encompasses training, matching, and mentoring.” These insights underscore our commitment to providing an exceptional learning experience, one that meets the rigorous standards expected in the field of charitable governance. Cohort 2’s feedback is a testament to the value BML brings to aspiring board leaders.

As we celebrate the achievements of Cohorts 1 and 2, we look forward to the future. Our mission to foster board leadership continues with upcoming sessions. On October 24th, we are excited to host our inaugural session in Vancouver, generously hosted by EY. In addition, we are excited to announce the program will be returning to Toronto in 2024 on January 17th for another transformative session.
